Sharda University and Bar Council of India

The School of Law has been established as a constituent of Sharda University, a state private University, established through an act passed by U.P. legislature (14 of 2009) and permitted by University Grants Commission to award degrees under Section 22 of the UGC Act 1956. The Bar Council of India after inspection of the academic and Physical infrastructure has permitted Sharda University (Approval Letter of BCI (346/2014) dated 15/May/2014) for running five year integrated LL.B programme.

The legal teaching, therefore must keep pace with these developments. School of Law proposes to respond to these challenges through its wide spectrum course structure and teaching practices. The School of Law has therefore, included in its course curriculum:

  • Bridge courses in Law from first year to make students understand the linkages between legal provisions vis-à-vis the Society, Trade, Industry and Commerce.
  • Bridge courses in Humanities, commerce and Business management with special emphasis on Legal education and practice.
  • Moot Court, Legal Aids and Legal Clinics, right from the first year.

The School will adopt clinical and problem-based teaching pedagogy and would lay special emphasis on skill development. Promotion of active participation in teaching learning process, sharing ideas, experimentation and innovation, autonomy, creativity and academic freedom shall be the hallmark of the School of Law.

Legal Thinking, Pedagogy and Teaching Methods

The School is dedicated to legal education and research in many ways. The School:

  • Provides students with a strong foundation in the rule of law in the common language of lawyers
  • Builds upon the diversity and depth of the law curriculum by adding courses in emerging fields of specialization
  • Provides practical skills training in advocacy, alternative dispute resolution, legal research and writing, problem solving and ethics
  • Ensures that students are exposed to theoretical and critical perspectives on the law
  • Attracts the best teaching and research faculty and promote student involvement in national and global research initiatives works to gather the resources necessary to support these initiatives

(LSAT Rankholders are exempted from SUAT (Sharda University Admission Test).
