LSAT—India essay writing competition


LSAT—India announces an English essay writing competition for students of classes XI and XII, studying in India. The essays will be judged by an expert committee, in accordance with the level of understanding of the content that the essay exhibits, its persuasiveness, and its critical thinking and originality. Besides these parameters, coherence, organised approach and linguistic proficiency will be other parameters for evaluation. Any level of plagiarism and non conformity to the guidelines of the competition will lead to the disqualification of the participant from the competition. The candidate should ensure that the Essay conforms to the specified limits of length before submission.


Participants can write on any of the following topics:

  1. Is death penalty the right solution?
  2. Is the Indian election process fair?
  3. Should animals be used for research?
  4. Do violent video games increase violent child behaviour?

The contest is open for students of classes XI and XII, studying in India. Only one entry from each candidate will be considered for competition.



Word Limit


4000 to 5000 words


A committee of experts from the legal field would evaluate the essays on the following parameters:

  1. Content
  2. Persuasiveness
  3. Critical Thinking
  4. Originality

Besides these points coherence, organized approach and linguistic proficiency will also be considered for evaluation. Plagiarism in any form will lead to disqualification.


Complete essays should be emailed to lsatindia@pearson.com by 15th April, 2012.

Instructions:


  1. Essay must be neatly typed on “A-4” size paper with a line-spacing of 1.5. Essay may be typed using MSWord, Times New Roman font size – 12.
  2. Only one entry per candidate will be accepted. Sending more than one entry will lead to candidate disqualification.
  3. Candidates should avoid making any direct reference to their identity in the text. Any such reference would lead to disqualification.
  4. The title page of the essay should have the following information.
    1. Name of the participant
    2. Father’s Name
    3. Date of Birth
    4. School
    5. School Address
    6. School Telephone No.
    7. Residential address
    8. Contact No.
    9. Mailing address with Pin Code

Copyright


The copyright of the essays once submitted will automatically be deemed to have been transferred to the Conducing Authority. However, the copyright of essays which have not been selected for prizes will automatically be deemed to have been transferred back to respective authors.
