O.P. Jindal Global University (JGU) and Jindal Global Law School (JGLS)


O.P. Jindal Global University is a non-profit university established by the Haryana Private Universities (Second Amendment) Act, 2009 at Sonipat, Haryana (NCR of Delhi). JGU and JGLS are recognised by the Bar Council of India (BCI). The University Grants Commission (UGC) has accorded its recognition to JGU. Jindal Global Law School (JGLS), India’s first global law school is situated on a 60-acre state of the art residential JGU campus. The vision of JGU is to promote global courses, global programmes, global curriculum, global research, global collaborations, and global interaction through a global faculty. In the academic year 2012-13, JGLS offers a five year B.A. LL.B. (Hons.) programme; a three year LL.B. programme and an LL.M. programme. The LL.M. programme of JGLS is offered for law graduates, corporate lawyers, legal practitioners, civil servants, diplomats and judges with three options for specialisation.



Curriculum and Pedagogy


JGLS is committed to provide global legal education to its students. To fulfill this objective, the curriculum and teaching pedagogy is designed to give extensive exposure to students to domestic, international and comparative law courses. Students at JGLS study compulsory courses and choose from an unparalleled array of elective courses. In addition to courses on substantive and procedural law, students will gain lawyering skills through practical training papers and clinical legal programmes. JGLS will inculcate sound research and writing skills among students by requiring them to write research papers and participate in the Research Centres.



Research Centres and Publication


As India’s first global and research driven law school, JGLS has established the following research centres in cutting edge legal and policy areas. Publication of the bi-annual journal Jindal Global Law Review represents JGLS commitment to a research-intensive environment. Students can be involved in one or more of the following research centres:

  • Centre for Global Corporate and Financial Law and Policy (Joint Centre established with Michigan Law School)
  • Centre for Penology, Criminal Justice and Police Studies
  • Centre for Human Rights Studies
  • Centre for International Trade and Economic Laws
  • Centre for Global Governance and Policy
  • Centre on Public Law and Jurisprudence
  • Centre for Health Law, Ethics and Technology
  • Centre for Women, Law and Social Change
  • Centre for Intellectual Property Rights Studies
  • Centre for Environment and Climate Change
  • Centre for South Asian Legal Studies

  • Centre for Victimology and Psychological Studies


Career Development and Placement Division


JGLS has established a Career Development and Placement Division with a view to providing career opportunities to students and graduates of JGLS. JGLS has signed Memoranda of Understandings (MoUs) and entered into academic partnerships with several reputed International and Indian law firms including: White and Case, Amarchand & Mangaldas & Suresh A Shroff & Co, AZB & Partners, FoxMandal Little, Luthra & Luthra Law Offices, Vaish Associates Advocates, Nishith Desai Associates, Khaitan & Co., Economic Law Practice. The purpose is to develop knowledge based partnerships and interaction with law firms and to facilitate internships and placements for JGLS students and graduates. JGLS Students have been placed for their interships across Indian and International Law Firms; Companies and Statutory Bodies; International Agencies and Non-Governmental Organizations; Judiciary and Research Institutions and Law Offices and Chambers of leading Advocates.
