University of Petroleum and Energy Studies, Dehradun
The University of Petroleum and Energy Studies (UPES) is a first of its kind and a unique university in the Pan Asian region. Born out of a unique vision, UPES aims to provide domain specific and industry ready management, engineering and legal professionals, at the graduate, postgraduate and doctoral levels. Since its inception in 2003, UPES has become the "Institute of Choice" for students and corporates in the Energy and Core sectors. More than 3000 students have passed through its hallowed portals and are today enjoying key roles in their chosen sectors. UPES is UGC and NAAC recognized.
The prestigious College of Legal Studies (CoLS) at UPES offers graduate programs for the candidates keen to pursue a legal career with a specialization in corporate and energy law in addition to regular legal studies. The program is designed to develop future legal professionals with the acumen to guide clients and corporates through the intricacies of regulatory framework, joint ventures, mergers and acquisitions and other legalese. Courses have been designed, keeping in mind the demand of legal professionals who have a thorough understanding of business, energy, technology and power sectors. The strong industry interface of the institution helps in bringing real life learning into the classroom and places students in the most sought after corporates. The College is well equipped with Lecture Halls, Faculty seating, Moot Court, etc.
The College of Legal Studies (CoLS) at UPES offers the following programs:
- BA LLB (Five Years Integrated Program) - With emphasis on Energy Laws
- BBA LLB (Five Years Integrated Program) - With emphasis on Corporate Laws.
Now, for the first time in India, UPES has introduced two unique Integrated B.Tech. LLB programs, listed below. Both these programs are approved by the Bar Council of India under its new rules of integrated programs.
- B.Tech. Energy Technology + LLB with emphasis on Intellectual Property Rights: This program equips the students to handle complex techno-legal issues in energy and allied sectors, and fulfill the fast emerging demand for protecting intellectual property rights being created in the Energy Sector, to sustain a long term competitive advantage.
- B. Tech. Computer Science + LLB with emphasis on Cyber Laws: This program provides a unique amalgam of Computer Science knowledge and Laws pertaining to Cyber world. Its significance arises from the rapid digitalization of almost all Industry sectors, which has also unfortunately led to rapid growth of cyber crime.
These programs are designed to create that special breed of young professionals who can work in Energy and IT companies or law firms specializing in Engineering - IPR practice or in Cyber Law practice.
